Blood on the Water
Sharks can smell blood on the water at a distance of 20 miles, we are told by experts on the behavior of these predators.
What follows the scent is a movement en masse in the direction of the bleeding victim, concluding with a “feeding frenzy.”
The Middle Eastern Mediterranean and its environs are home to the most predatory culture the modern world has ever known – triumphalist, insatiable Arab-Muslim Jihadism. Not content with the destruction of its imagined enemies, it has no compunction – doing the sharks one better – in devouring its own, as we are witnessing daily in Iraq and the genocidal Syria of Bashar Assad. The message to Israel could not be more clear: “Do not leave the scent of blood on the water.”
That is exactly what Israel will be doing if it yields to American pressure and retreats to any variation of the indefensible 1949 cease-fire lines.
That is exactly what it will be doing if it violates its commitment to the indivisibility of Jerusalem, its sacred capital.
That is yet again what it will doing if it abandons any portion of the Jordan Valley and the Hills of Samaria — existential barriers to invasion from the east – to Mahmoud Abbas and his Jihadist compatriots.
Can we ask even the finest, most motivated army in the world – our IDF– to defend a central Israeli waistline once more reduced to 9 miles?
Do we dare put our Gush Dan industrial heartland, including Ben-Gurion International Airport, at the mercy of a 17 year- old “shaheed” with a $300 shoulder-mounted missile?
Can we permit the thugs of Tanzim and the Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade to walk the streets of Jerusalem and still call it “our” capital?
The sacrifice of strategic interests to leftist sloganeering that delivered our defensive enclave in south Lebanon into the hands of Hezbollah, the irrationality that transformed 22 proud Jewish communities in Gush Katif into Hamas rocket launching sites, the Oslo-ist delusion that put Judea and Samaria on the “Palestinian” auction block – these self-destructive behavioral patterns must be excised here and now!
We are at this late hour engaged in secret decision-making at secret meetings that could determine the fate of our irreplaceable Jewish state. To a larger extent, the ultimate destiny of the Jewish People also hangs in the balance. We can only hope — nay, demand — that our leaders rediscover the power their predecessors once had to say “no” when a courageous, resolute “no” is the only alternative to leaving the scent of blood on the water
