How Mahmoud Abbas lost his marbles
Picking a fight with the United States, the government no less, may not be a smart move, as Al Capone found out.
Jack Engelhard’s classic international bestselling novel Indecent Proposal, which later became a worldwide hit movie, has been republished to meet readers’ demands. His other major works include Compulsive: A Novel, his award-winning post-Holocaust Montreal memoir Escape from Mount Moriah, plus Slot Attendant: A Novel About A Novelist. On Friday, he threatened to cut off all ties with the United States.
On Thursday, he threatened to go to the Security Council to have Israel and the United States cut off from the United Nations.
On Wednesday, he threatened to go before the ICC, International Criminal Court to have everybody cut off and arrested.
On Tuesday, through his propaganda minister Saeb Erekat who told her to “shut up,” Abbas threatened to cut off all ties with Nikki Haley.
On Monday, he threatened to cut off all ties with President Trump.
I may have the days wrong, off a day or two, but not the facts…clearly, that the man has lost his marbles.
This terrorist in a suit can’t take it that finally one President, Trump, is not buying that PA/Fatah/Hamas Palestinian garbage anymore…and that many around the rest of the world have come around to Trump’s point of view. Abbas will try anything to get the world’s attention as the result of the abrupt cold shoulder.
That’s what’s got him going berserk… Trump’s official Declaration that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel…followed by cuts in US funding for his PA and his UNRWA…the UN division which the Palestinian Authority owns to the brim. Ouch. That’s not the way it used to be under previous administrations that came running whenever Abbas whistled.
He wants to remind the world that if he and his “people” can’t make anything good (been that since they were invented June 12, 1964), he can still make trouble.
So now he wants to remind the world that if he and his “people” can’t make anything good (been that since they were invented June 12, 1964), he can still make trouble.
Trouble is, nobody cares. Well, the Europeans, of course they care, but not as much as they used to, for they too don’t want to get on Trump’s bad side.
Today, even the king of Jordan says that nothing can be done or settled without the United States.
On about the same day, we learn, through newly released diaries, that Abbas was directly responsible for the 1985 murder of wheelchair-bound Jewish American Leon Klinghoffer aboard the Achille Lauro cruise ship. Four PLO terrorists who intended to hijack the ship for Abbas tossed Klinghoffer overboard. Abbas, the diaries show, skipped justice at the favor of Italian authorities.
But starting with Trump, the love for this arch terrorist is just not there anymore. Trump cut him down to size…showed him to be just another mobster, another Al Capone.
Forget, then, the sleepovers in the Lincoln Bedroom. Or was that Arafat? Yes, it was. What’s the difference? A thug is a thug is a thug.
Picking a fight with the United States, the government no less, may not be a smart move, as Capone found out.
During his 7-year reign, Capone murdered 33 people, according to police files. You thought more, didn’t you. I did. But that’s the number.
But in the end, that was 33 Americans too many.
Consider, now, the Israelis, who have lost many times that number of loved ones during Abbas’ reign of terror over a period of nearly 20 years…up to Monday’s murder of an Israeli in Ariel.
What took so long to have this mass murderer exposed? Even Prime Minister Netanyahu who for the longest time called him a peace partner as part of the game, now openly calls him an anti-Semite. Let’s be honest. Abbas, like Arafat before him, was operating as the world’s hired hand to do the dirty work against the Jews. He was their go-to anti-Semite.
It was in that spirit that on each trip to Europe this disgusting man was received like the second coming of Lindbergh.
No, Europe wasn’t finished with the Jews. In Abbas they had their henchman, as did the rest of the world — which shows its true colors whenever Israel comes up for a vote at the UN. The count is near unanimous against the Jewish State, so nothing much has changed since Pharaoh declared, “Let us deal cleverly with this people.”
Abbas’ cleverness may have come to an end. He still has doors open, if only half-open. He still has friends, if only half-hearted.
So now that he’s been marginalized to near-zero he’s left with nothing but bitterness and the rage of a madman.
We are not supposed to rejoice when even our enemies are in pain. It is forbidden.
On this one, I’ll take my chances.
